COMPTON’S COOL AT CAHOKIA CREEK

By: Bud Northrup - White City, IL  8/6/05

We have a new ‘Young Gun’ (young riders on big bikes) in Illinois.  Fifteen year old Dustin Compton rode for the first time in the highly competitive  and fast 600cc class and not only won the class, but also turned the fastest time of the night at the Cahokia Creek Dirt Riders hill climb near White City, Illinois.

Compton sailed his CR500 over the top of the 120 foot hill in a very good 3.736 seconds on his first ride, but another young gun, 18 year old ‘Crazy Jake’ Tackitt, took the first round lead with an even quicker 3.706 second run on his Honda.  In the second round, however, young Compton held the throttle open just a tick longer, and flew over the top in 3.551 seconds to retake the lead.  Tackitt couldn’t improve on his first ride, so had to settle for second place.  Brent Bowman claimed third on his KX00 with a 3.898 second effort.

Compton’s closest challenge for the Fast Time Award came from Mike Wargo, who rode his stock length YZ450F thumper to two class wins.  Wargo’s first win came in the 450cc Class, where his first round time of 3.657 was the best in that class, and fast time to that point of the night.  Shane Green claimed second with a good 3.725 second run on his KTM380.

Wargo brought his thumper back for Open Stock Class action and turned in a 3.890 second time on his first ride, but Tim Reid, also on a Yamaha 450, slipped under him with a 3.730 second time.  Wargo responded in the second round with a sizzling 3.645 second time to take the class win, and set the second and third fastest times of the night.

Troy Camerer was also a double class winner.  Riding a stock length Suzuki RM250, he claimed his first win with a fine 3.748 second time in the 250cc class on his first ride, then watched as no one in the class could match him all night.  Tim Reid was the closest with a 3.899 second time on hisYZ250.

Camerer brought his Suzuki back in the 400cc Stock class and won that class also – a 3.920 second time on his first run which, again, no one in the class could match on either round.  Chris Welch took second place with a 4.060 second time on his Yamaha 250.

In Youth class action, Blake ‘Blazin Blake’ Cappello set the Youth Fast Time with a 4.753 second time on his KX80 to win the Senior Mini class.  Justin James was second on his KX85 with a 4.990 second run.

In other youth action, Dakota Campbell took the 50cc class win with Logan Moody second, Brett Kalaher was the fastest in the 65cc class with Moody second again, and Jeremy James was the best of the Junior Mini class riders, with Schuyler Kalaher running second.
