The Cahokia Creek Dirt Riders held the first District 17 hillclimb for 2004 and 116 riders and perhaps 1,000 spectators turned out for the event.

    The RevLoc clutch equipped CR500 Hondas built by Gayle Jenkins had a big night. Jake Tackitt, riding in the 600cc class flew his Honda over the top of the hill in a blistering 3.180 seconds to take the class win and set the fast time of the night in amateur action. His ‘Team Jenkins’ running mate, also running a RevLoc CR500, topped the hill in 3.250 seconds for second place. Jared McKay, running a 540cc Kawasaki was third with a 3.275 second run. Josh Denson has built up a KX500 with both a 540 kit and the RevLoc clutch, and took 4tth place on his first climb with it in 3.354 seconds.

    In the King of the Hill one run shootout, the two RevLoc Hondas again took the top two spots, but this time Bowman took the win with an incredible 3.094 second run, fastest overall time of the night, with Tackitt running second.

    But that wasn’t all for the Jenkins bikes – Gayle, the ‘Old Pro’, rode the bike Tackitt runs and won both the Senior and Super Senior Classes with times of 3.419 and 3.560 respectively

    Jason Northrup was a double class winner, taking the 750cc and Open Class wins. He delivered what most observers agreed was the fastest two rides of the night on his 750cc Kawasaki Triple in the first round, but the clock failed to start on both the first ride and the first rerun. When he rode the third time, he wheelied out of the hole and had a relatively slow run of 3.475 seconds. which, of course, the clock worked on. Riding his Jeff Thomas built 1220cc Yamaha in the Open Class, he ran a 3.332 second time for the win.

    Jared McKay and Shane Green were also double class winners. Green, a 12 year old from Georgetown, Illinois, took the National Championship in the 85cc Junior Mini Class in 2003, and is riding Senior Mini Class this year. He continued his winning ways with a 4.186 second ride on his YZ85 to win the 85CC Senior Mini Class. He then returned with a YZ125 and posted an outstanding 3.737 time to win that class – but only 1/1,000 of a second faster than Kevin Dean Bond who topped the hill in 3.738 seconds on his CR125 – it doesn’t get much tighter than that.

    McKay got his first win in the 250cc class with a 3.404 second run aboard his classy YZ250 with that beautiful Black/Yellow ‘retro’ body work. His second win came aboard his stock length CR450F Honda – a nice 3.473 second run to win the Open Stock Class.

    In Youth class action, Jeremiah Lyday claimed the 50cc Automatic class win with Matt Gocken second, ‘Jammin Joe’ McGure was the 65cc class winner with Gocken second again, and Caleb Emory was the best of the 85cc Junior Mini riders with Drew Daniels running second.

    Other Amateur class winners were Gordon Green in the 200cc class, Cody Jenner in the 450cc class, Josh Denson in the 600cc 4-Stroke, Steve Shafer in the Pushrod class, and Steve King in the 400cc Stock class.
