The Cahokia Creek Dirt Riders hosted a night hill climb at their club gounds near White City, Illinois on May 21.  Cody Jenner and his stepbrother, Mike Popham, enjoyed a very good evening.

            Jenner set the Fast Time of the day with a sizzling 3.188 second run up the 120 foot hill as he won the 600cc class on his CR500.  John Simenic posted a 3.516 second time on his Honda for second place, with Scott Petty and his Honda running third in 3.642 seconds.

            Jenner, the defending 2004 District 15/17 season ‘King’, brought his hot Honda back to compete in the one run King of the Hill race, and posted an excellent 3.110 second time, even faster than his Fast Time in the ‘regular’ classes.  But Mike Popham, his stepbrother, flew his YZ250 over the top in an even faster 3.054 seconds to take the King of the Hill title.  The Fast Time award still belonged to Cody, as it is awarded to the fast guy in regulation classes – and the ‘King’ class is an exhibition class. 

            Popham also rides a very good YZ125, and he used it to win the 125cc class with a very good 3.644 second first round ride.  R.D. Miller III was a very close challenger in that class, flying his KX125 over the top in 3.652 seconds to come oh, so close.  Kevin ‘Bubba’ Bond claimed third in 3.720 seconds on his CR125.

            Mike Wargo was a double class winner on his YZ450F Yamaha.  Riding it stock length in the 450cc class, he posted a 3.454 second time to take that win, with Paul Hillard running second on his 350cc twin Yamaha, and Jenner running third.   Wargo brought his thumper back in the Open Stock class and popped over the top in 3.445 seconds to take that win, with Tim Reid, also on a YZ450F, running second in 3.627 seconds.

            Scott Petty’s bike also took two class wins, but Scott enjoyed only one of them.  Petty, the District 15 Hillclimb Referee, sailed over the top in 3.415 seconds on his first ride in the Senior (+40) Class, to take that win on his CR500, with Jeff Jack running second close behind him with a 3.442 second run on his KX500, and Kevin Bond taking third on his CR500.

            Petty then turned his hot running Honda over to Bud Northrup to ride in the Super Senior class.  ‘OldBud’ found himself in third place behind Richard Potter (3.941) and Willie Williams (3.946) with a first round 3.968 second first ride.  But he held the throttle on just a tad longer on his second ride and topped the hill in 3.849 seconds to take the class win, with Potter second and Williams third, neither of which could improve on their first run times.

            In youth class action, Dakota Watson took the 50cc Automatic class win with Jeremiah Lyday second, Mike Tomazzoli won the 65cc class with Brett Kalaher second, Caleb Emory won the 85cc Junior Mini class with Schuyler Kalaher second, and Blake Cappello was the fastest in the Senior Mini class with Shane Green in second place.
