The Cahokia Creek Dirt Riders held their first Hill Climb of 2006, and young Dustin Compton emerged as the fastest rider of the night, and nearly recorded a perfect night.

            Compton’s fast time came in the 600cc class, but he had to come from behind to earn it.  Cody Jenner, who had set the fast time two days in a row the weekend before, flew his CR500 over the top of the 130 foot hill in 3.3170 seconds to take the first round lead in the class, with Compton in second place with a 4.150 second time.  But in the second round, Compton blitzed the hill with an exceptional 3.251 second time on his KX500 to move into the lead.  Jenner responded with another good ride, but his 3.320 second effort left him in second place.

            Compton also won the 250cc, but had to come from behind there, also.  After crashing at 121 feet on his first ride, he carded a 3.875 second hill topping time on his second ride to take the win away from Justin James, who recorded a 4.030 second run on his first ride.  Dustin’s quest for a perfect night was spoiled in the 400cc Stock class, where he had to settle for second place.  Richard Vieregge, riding a Husky, topped the hill in 4.412 seconds on his first ride to take the class lead.  Compton responded with a good 4.574 second first ride, and then a 4.584 on his second, and was denied his perfect night.

            Compton capped off his near perfect evening by winning the King of the Hill class, the one run winner take all class for the ten fastest riders of the day.  Cody Jenner was again Compton’s closest challenger with a fine 3.396 second time on his CR500.  Compton was just slightly quicker, however, with 3.390 second run for the win.

            Young Brett Kalaher was the fastest of the youth riders with a 5.150 second class winning time on his KX85 in the 85cc Junior Mini Class.  Brett had a perfect night as he also won the 65cc class with his KX65 with a 5.399 second time.  Logan Moody finished second in both those classes .Dakota Watson, National #3, was the only 50cc class rider to top the hill and won the class with a time of 7.032 seconds, overtaking Seth Bruhn who climbed 115 feet on his little Honda to take the class lead in to intermission.  Jeremy James continued his winning ways in the 85cc Senior Mini class with a 8.429 second time.

            Nick Isotov enjoyed a double win night on his smooth running Harley.  His 3.830 second first round ride was good enough fot the Open Class win, with Tom Compton running second on his big Kawasaki with a 5.103 second time.  In Open Pushrod class action, Isotov topped the hill on his first ride in 4.222 seconds on his first ride, a time which held up for the win, with Cody Jenner, also on a Harley, very close to him in 4.265 seconds.
