BECKWITH DOUBLES, CIPALA FASTEST AT INDIANHEAD SEASON FINALE

The Indianhead Motorcycle Club had originally planned a season ending Saturday/Sunday semi-pro double header on October 5th and 6th, but moved their second event up to Saturday due to forecasts of bad weather for Sunday. So, after the results were tallied and money paid for the Saturday event, the riders rode the second event.

Todd Cipala set the fast time again, but this time did it on his Kawasaki 750 Triple instead of his Harley – riding both bikes in the 601 and up Open Class. Cipala flew his screaming triple over the top in a blazing 6.305 seconds to take the class lead and set a fast time that would hold up. National #2 in the 750 class, Kaleb Northrup, nearly caught him as he screamed his triple over the top in 6.315 seconds, and the Open Class National Champ, Lloyd Mueller, amazingly slipped in between Cipala and Northrup with a 6.312 second time on his Harley – putting the top three riders in the class (and the day), only 1/100th second apart! Cipala also claimed the 4th place cash on his Harley with National #8 Louie Lauters taking 5th on his Harley.

Ernie Beckwith came all the way from Plattsmouth, Nebraska to ride and made his trip worthwhile by winning both the 450 and 600cc classes. Beckwith flew over the 300 foot hill in 6.579 seconds to take the 450cc class win, with Ryan Peterson running second with a 6.611 second time. Chad Koopsma, Joel Falde and National #2 Bill Paider filled out the top five spots.

Falde had not competed in hillclimbs for the past several years, but did not appear to have lost any of his considerable skills, taking two fourth places and making it into the top 10 rider ‘80-Open’ dash for cash.

Beckwith kept his hot riding up in the 600cc class, where he posted a blazing 6.330 second run on his first ride to set the fast time in the class, and overall to that point of time. That time held up for the class win with Eric O’Connor claiming second place on his KX500 and National Champion Mike Wood running third on his Honda. Falde claimed fourth on his CR500 CBR600 Honda riding Chad Koopsma spinning his way to the top for fifth place.

Dan Prebe is the National Champion in the 200cc class and appeared to have that class won with a 7.636 second time, until his son Aaron, riding Dan’s KTM200, nailed a 7.519 second time. Dan was really pleased, however – but the question is – who rides that bike next year? Ryan Peterson was only 4/1,000’s of a second behind Dan on his KTM for third with Scott Braun and James Marquardt taking 4th and 5th.

Scott Braun beat his National Champion brother Jason in the 250cc class, carding a 6.836 second time against Jason’s 6.870. National #2 Peterson claimed third with Kevin Braun and Mike Wood running 4th and 5th.

Scott Albers claimed the Quad win for the second time of the day on Alex Wells’ wildly overbored Yamaha Banshee in 6.496 seconds with Alex claiming second with a 6.827 second time on his Banshee. Albers time was so good he actually made it into the open-80 dash for cash run for the top ten riders of the day – not usually accomplished by a Quad! Tod Hintz, Brian Heitman and Eric O’Connor filled out the top five places in the class.

Riders and spectators alike contributed $176 for the Open-80 dash for cash – a one run, winner take all race for the top ten riders of the day. Todd Cipala set the early quick time on his Harley, but Lloyd Mueller slipped under him on his Harley. Cipala returned with his Triple and tried to regain the top spot, but came up short, and Mueller walked off with the cash – promising a round of drinks for all later that evening.
