Lloyd Haas, a veteran hillclimber from Elizabeth, Illinois appeared to be on his way to a perfect day at the Rock River Riders hill climb, until Cody Jenner stepped in to spoil his bid.  His first win came in the 600cc class where his 3.572 second first round ride on his Honda was the fastest of the day to that point, and good enough to hold up all day for that class win.  Paul Hackbarth was fast also, claiming second place on his Honda with a 3.614 seconds, with Kurt Krohner running third on his CR500.

In 750cc class action, Haas brought his 750cc Kawasaki triple to the line carrying the ‘1N’ on his number plate, designating his 2008 National Championship.  He blitzed the hill in a sizzling 3.273 seconds, again on his first ride and setting an even faster fast time claiming his second class win.  Bobby Senn and Mike Sarver claimed the next two spots.

In the Open Class, however, Cody Jenner, riding his massive Kawasaki four cylinder fire breather, roared over the top in a breathtaking 3.194 seconds on his first ride to set a new fast time that would hold up the rest of the day, and take the class win.  Haas, riding an 800cc Kawasaki triple, posted a very good 3.424 second run for second place, with ‘Minnesota Nick’ Isotov claiming third on his Harley.  Haas carded three of the top five times of the day.

Haas wasn’t done, however, as he rode his 750cc triple in the King of the Hill class – a one run winner take all class for the 10 fastest riders of the day.  He delivered another very fast run with a 3.270 second high flying ride, claiming the coveted ‘King’ plaque.  Craig Schnitzler was second and Scott Lisk third.

Scnitzler enjoyed a double win day, his first coming in the 125cc class.  His first round time of 4.336 seconds on his YZ125 was good enough for the win, followed by an even faster 4.223 second run on his second ride.  Josh Beckley claimed second in 4.516 seconds with Chad Altfillisch third.

Schnitzler’s second win came in the 250cc class, where again, his first round ride (3.620 seconds), was good for the win on his Yamaha.  Mike Popham, also Yamaha mounted, claimed second in 4.059 seconds with Derek Swanson third.
