On Sunday, June 3, Eric Wheelwright, Mike Popham and Cody Jenner waged a Fast Time war at the Variety Riders Motorcycle Club hill climb..  Wheelwright posted an early fast time in the first round on his YZ250 with a 3.370 second run to take the 250cc class lead, a time which would hold up for the win – with Mike Popham in second place with a 3.712 second time on his Yamaha.

Wheelwright then took the 450cc class lead with his first ride of 3.378 seconds on his first ride on his YZ450F, but Popham nailed a sizzling 3.298 second time on his second ride on his Yamaha, taking the class win but also, incredibly, TYING the Fast Time his step brother, Cody Jenner, had posted in the first round. I can’t remember a tie for Fast Time ever occurring before.  Add the fact that the two riders involved were stepbrothers, and the tie becomes even more incredible.

Jenner’s fast time came on his first ride in the 600cc class, a 3.298 second high flying run on his CR500.  Second place went to guess who, Eric Wheelwright of course – who topped the hill in 3.478 seconds.  Jenner’s second ride was almost a carbon copy of his first, posting a 3.301 second time.

Jenner and Popham ran a tiebreaker to determine who would claim the Fast Time award, with Jenner claiming the prize.

Jenner, Popham and Wheelwright accounted for ALL the top 10 times -  Jenner with the 1st and 3rd fastest, Popham with the 2d (after the runoff), 9thh and 10th fastest, while Wheelwright carded the 4th through 8th fastest times.  Quite a performance by a terrific trio of climbers!

Popham also enjoyed another double win day as he also won the 600 4-Stroke class riding his YZ450F thumper to a 3.542 second win with Bobby Senn running second with a 4.005 second time on his Yamaha.

Mike Pulver had a triple win day, taking first place in the Senior (+40), 400 Stock and Open Stock classes.

Brett Kalaher was the 85cc Junior Mini class winner and Youth Fast Time winner for the second straight day.  In other youth action, D.J. Watson won the 50cc class and Logan Moody took the 65cc class win.
