SCHULTZ, GREEN TOPS AT NEOGA

By: Bud Northrup - Neoga, IL - 8/30-31/08

The Central Illinois M/C held the first half of a weekend doubleheader hill climb on August 30, with Wade Schultz coming all the way from Iowa to claim two class wins and the Fast Time award. Riding a CR500 in the 600cc class, ‘Wild Wade’ flew over the top of the 100 foot steep, rutted hill in an amazing 2.397 seconds on his first ride, a time no one would match the rest of the night.  ‘Fast Andy’ Fortner was his closest competitor with a 2.486 second time, with Cody Jenner third in 2.497 seconds.

Schultz’s second win came in the 750cc class on his Yamaha Twin.  Class point leader and defending District class champion Paul Hillard set the first round time to beat on his Kawasaki triple with a good 2.708 seconds, but Schultz responded with a quicker 2.626 second time for the win in second round action. Bobby Senn took third.

Shane Green and Brett Kalaher were also double class winners.  Green’s first win came in the 250cc class where he had to overtake Matt Peters who had set the first round lead on his Honda with a 2.640 seconds.  Green sailed his YZ250 over the top in 2.603 seconds on his second ride to take the win, with Dylan Brady taking third.

The 450cc class was a near replay of the 250, with Peters taking the first round lead on his KTM with a 2.638 second run, and Green crashing.  Green came back again in the second round on his KTm with a 2.581 second run for the win, with Gordon Green claiming third.

Kalaher’s first win came in youth action, where he topped the ‘youth hill’ in 3.292 seconds on his KX85 for the win in the 85cc Junior Mini Class.  Jarred Brown was second in 3.292 seconds.  Kalaher’s second win was in the 125cc class with a very good 2.888 second first round ride for the win, with Joe McGurer second and Dylan Brady third.  Due to the steep grade and generally tough ‘regular’ hill, the club has a second, less difficult hill, for the youth, stock, Quad,+50 and women classes.

In other youth class action, Reece Hutton claimed the 50cc class win with Levi Peters second and National Champion Dakota ‘D.J.’ Watson took the 65cc class win with Jarred Brown second.  Joe ‘Jammin’ Joe’ McGurer took the 85cc Senior Mini class win with a 3.141 second run, which was also good for the Youth Fast Time.  Josh Blazek took second in that class.

In the Sunday version of the doubleheader weekend, Shane Green enjoyed yet another perfect day, winning all three classes he entered and taking the Fast Time award.  His first win came in the 250cc class, coming from behind to overtake Brett Kalaher, who sailed his KX250 over the top in 2.846 seconds to take the first round lead.  Green topped the hill on his second ride on his Yamaha in 2.838 seconds to snatch the win from the 12 year old Kalaher by less than a hundredth of a second, with Matt Peters third.

In 450cc action, Green’s first ride of 2.810 seconds on his KTM would have been good for the win, but he was even quicker on his second run in 2.743 seconds.  Dan Groth was second in 2.869 seconds with Gordon Green third in 2.914 seconds.

Green’s third class win, and Fast time, came in the always fast 600cc class, and he had to overtake Matt peters to do it.  Peters flew his KX500 over the top in 2.697 seconds to take the first round lead, but Green responded with a 2.635 second clock stopper in the second round to not only win the class, but also take the overall fast time from Paul Hillard, who had carded a 2.691 second time on his Kaw triple in the first round action in the Senior (+40) class.  Scott Petty claimed third in the 600 class.

Hillard did enjoy a double class win evening, adding the 750cc class win to his Senior class victory.  He had to overtake the Saturday night Fast Time guy, ‘Wild Wade’ Schultz, who carded a first round 2.870 second time on his Yamaha Twin to take the first round lead.  Hillard delivered a very good 2.680 second run on his second run on his screaming 2 stroke triple to claim the win.  Chris Senn claimed third.

Brett Kalaher also enjoyed another double win evening, his first coming in the 85cc Junior Mini class with a 2.999 second class winning time, which was also good for the Youth Fast Time trophy.  Andrew Fortner was second.  His second win came in the 125cc class as his first round 3.103 second run was just barely good enough to edge Joe McGurer, who stopped the clocks in 3.116 seconds.  Dylan Brady was third.

In other youth class action, Reece Hutton took the 50cc class win with Levi Peters second, D.J. Watson was the 65cc class winner with Jarred Brown second, and Joe McGurer was the best of the 85cc Senior Mini class with Josh Blazek running second.
