Thomas Racing Services Inc hosted the second annual East-West shootout on a 600 foot ski hill near Nashville, Indiana.  The weekend featured an amateur climb on Saturday with all District 15 and 17 classes, followed by a pro event on Sunday.

            175 riders challenged the hill on Saturday in the amateur event, featuring a fast time war between Nate Redmann, Eric Wheelwright and Harold Waddell.

            Waddell, a NAHA pro from Omaha, Nebraska, set the first round fast time with an excellent 15.188 second time on his stock length Suzuki in the Open Stock class.  Stock length bikes did well on this hill as the ‘track’ was very similar to a moto cross, with right turns, left turns, berms and double jumps – quite a challenge for the extended swingarm hillclimbers.

            Wheelwright had taken the first round lead with a 15.537 second time in the 250cc class on his YZ250, with Redmann in second place on his KTM in 16.046 seconds.  Redmann improved in the second round with a 15.912 second time, but had to settle for second behind Wheelwright.

            In the 450cc class, however, the two riders reversed their positions.  Wheelwright set the first round fast time with a 15.349 second time on his CRF450, while Redmann found himself well down in the pack with a 15.878 second run on his YZ450F.  In second round action, however, Redmann flew his Yamaha through the turns and over the jumps like a true moto crosser and stopped the clock in 14.998 seconds – the only rider to get under 15 seconds all day to win the class and take the Fast Time award. Wheelwright responded with a strong run of his own, but came up short with a 15.129 second time.  Waddell improved on his first ride with a 15.134 second winning time in the Open Stock class, but couldn’t overtake either Redmann or Wheelwright.

            In youth class action, Logan Enzbrenner set the Youth Fast Time with a 19.606 second class winning ride in the 85cc Senior Mini class on his YZ85 with Justin James second in 20.487 seconds. Justin Deeken rode his little KTM50 210 feet up the hill to win the 50cc class with Morgan Wheelwright second with 190 foot effort.  Steve ‘Bug’ Coon Jr climbed 235 feet on his KX65 to win the 65cc class with Logan Moody second.  ‘Jammin Joe’ McGurer topped the hill in 21.600 seconds to take the 85cc Junior Mini class win on his KX85, with Logan Moody taking second again  with a 24.255 second time on his KX85.

            In Quad action, Josh Perry was the 2-Stroke winner with Ryan Garriott second, while David Brown was the fastest four stroker with Jim Mahan second.
