About 200 riders were at the Kato Cycle Club’s annual Father’s Day hillclimb. The hill was unique and received mixed reviews from the riders. It began with a small jump at the timing lights at the bottom of the hill, went up to another larger jump, then to a third jump, and finally crested. The safety of the top of the hill, which was shooting riders up in the air and then dropping away, was the main issue of concern for most riders. After the riders shared their opinions on the hill with the Kato Cycle Club, they began preparing for the challenging hill.

During the first round, Pisek, North Dakota’s Arnold Jelinek set a 5.4776 second run that would eventually prove to be the fast time of the day on his Open class Triumph. "I just opened up the Triumph and held on," Jelinek commented about his run.

In the 80 Open, Open class rider Ashley Eiken was the first rider to take to the hill and set a quick pace of 6.2773 seconds. However he was quickly topped by 600 class rider Dave Perrigo with a 6.2992 second run. Ellsworth, Wisconsin’s Todd Cipala dropped the race into the five second range with a 5.7105 run, but past 600 class champion Mike Wood claimed the lead immediately after Cipala’s run with a time of 5.6615 seconds. Wood’s time held through out most of the 80 Open, but current 80 Open district champion Eric Donaldson was the last rider to take his turn at the hill. He took his Honda flying up the hill in a fast 5.5822 seconds to take the win.
