Riders from all over the Midwest gathered just outside of Hixton, Wisconsin to compete in the annual CMJ Raceway hillclimb. Although Mother Nature had deprived us of rain, the Hixton Volunteer Fire Department was on hand to water the hill and pit roads periodically both days.

    On Saturday, the hill deteriorated fairly quickly as what moisture was there evaporated into the air, making the first round very important. During the first round, Mike Wood opened up the 600 class with the first and only ten second ride of the day at 10.98 seconds on his Honda. In the 80 Open, La Valle, Wisconsin’s Kirk Mueller took the early lead on his CR500 and held it through the remainder of the riders including Todd Cipala with a 11.91 second ride and Mike Wood with a 11.95 second ride.

    On Sunday after heavy watering, the hill held up better and proved to be a lot faster. Bay City, Wisconsin’s Mike Wood once again seemed like a favorite for fast time of the day after setting a first round time of 10.32 seconds in the 600 class, but as the second round rolled around the fleet of Kawasaki Triple in the 750 class felt otherwise. Todd Cipala led the first and the fastest attack on the hill with a 10.06 second ride followed by Kurt Koester with a 10.11 second ride. In the 80 Open, Kirk Mueller, on his Kawasaki Triple seem poise to take his second 80 Open of the weekend with a 10.38 second ride before Koester narrowly edged him out with a 10.32 second ride on his Triple.
