BALDWIN FAST, RAUGH TRIPLES AT GOSHEN

By: Bud Northrup - Goshen, IN - 5/21/06

The Goshen Iron Horsemen held their 2006 amateur hill climb on May 21, and nearly 100 riders showed up to challenge the pro style hill.  Stephen Baldwin emerged as the fastest of the day as he flew his 750cc Kawasaki Triple over the top in 3.725 seconds on his first ride to set a class winning time, and also the Fast Time of the day.  Paul Hillard finished second in the class on his triple with a 4.136 second run.

Baldwin’s closest challenge for overall fast time came in the 600cc class where Greg Dunbar sailed over in 3.761 seconds.  Adam Doubblestein was close behind him with a 3.804 second run on his second attempt, with Chris Huizenga, Corey Smith and Justin Trent all also carding 3 second runs to fill out the top five places.

Mike Raugh was the only multiple class winner, and he was a triple winner. His first win came in the 450cc class where he rode his 4 stroke thumper to a 4.096 second winning time with Stan Johnson claiming second with a 5.036 second run.  Raugh brought his thumper back in the 600cc Four Stroke class and claimed that win also with a nice 4.175 second run, with Johnson taking second place again, this time carding a 5.342 second time.  Raugh’s third win came in the Senior (+40) class where he topped out in 5.259 seconds on his second run to snatch the win from District 15 Hill Climb Referee Scott Petty, who had posted a 5.336 second run on his first ride to take the class lead into intermission.

In youth class action, Joe ‘Jammin’ Joe’ McGurer made his first ride of the season and made it count with a 5.932 second winning ride in the 85CC Junior Mini class, with Matt Kinkin claiming second with a 6.205 second run.  McGurer’s time would also be the fastest of any youth rider for the whole day.  Kolt Kinsler was the only 50CC class rider to see the top of the hill, and thrilled the crowd by doing it on both of his rides, his first being the best at 6.328 seconds.  Cole Garriott claimed second with a 149 foot effort.  Brooke Larabee was the 65cc class winner and Kyle Johnson claimed the 85cc Senior Mini class win with Jarred Dillon second..
