Goshen, IN 5/16/10

174 riders competed on the Goshen Iron Horseman hill, with Chris Huizenga setting the overall fast time of the day. Not so easy, as he had to come from last place in the first round, having crashed at 53 feet on his first ride. But on his second ride he landed his KX500 cleanly off the starting line jump and shot over the top in a sizzling 3.906 seconds to take the 600cc class win, and set Fast Time of the Day. He was the only rider all day to break into the three second bracket. Josh Shoup was second in 4.117 seconds with Danny Schumann third in 4.126 seconds.

‘Fast Andy’ Fortner was the only double class winner, claiming wins in the Senior (+40) and 400cc Stock classes. His first round ride of 4.206 seconds on his CR500 in the Senior class held up all day for that class win, well ahead of District 15 Hill Climb Referee Scotty Petty, who stopped the clock in 4.491 seconds on his Honda. William Whipple was a distant third in 5.464 seconds.

Fortner had to come from behind to win the 400cc Stock class on his CR250, as his 5.705 second first round ride had him in third place at the break, behind Steve Laughlin and Marshall Dillon. He pinned his throttle on his second round, however, made a good jump and landing off the start and flew over the top in 5.391 seconds to take the win, with Laughlin and Dillon settling back in second and third.

The Garriott family had another good day. Ryan Garriott took one ride to win the 2-Stroke Quad class with a good 5.187 second time, with his brother Wade running second and Evan Zimmerman third.

Clint Garriott topped the hill in 7.091 seconds on his first ride on his KX65 to win the 65cc class, with Joey Howard II claiming second and Andrew Fortner third. Cole Garriott was the fast in the 85cc Junior Mini class with a fine 6.343 second run on his CR85. Eathen Bartenback was second and Andrew Fortner third.

In other Youth action, Trevor Lake blazed over the top in 5.888 seconds to win the 85cc Senior Mini class, and also set the Youth Fast Time of the day. Justin Griffin and Dillon Whipple filled the next two spots. Cody Miller was the best in the 50cc class with an 8.290 second time on his KTM50, followed by Colby Stephenson and Cline Garriott.
