Anti-Spam measure - NO MORE GMAIL ACCOUNTS!

Fighting against hackers, spammers, botnets, etc. is a constant pain in the butt of any webmaster. Me included.

Today I have taken an action that should stop essentially 100% of all the new spammers/bots that sign up for the forum and then start posting spam/porn/whatever in the forums. I have banned Gmail email addresses from registering - for close to the past year, virtually 100% of all of the account set up by spammers and bots use Gmail accounts...and it's not hard to figure out why. Google will happily give out email accounts to anybody/anybot and they don't actually do any checking at all - they have no controls at all - and that's why all the bad people in the world love Google. Google is a huge enabler for these abusive practices, and I just can't keep up with all the spammers and botnets that they assist in their evildoing.

Granted, many legitimate people use Gmail. If the only email address you have is a Gmail account, contact me at Motoman@KingOfTheHill.org and we'll get your account set up manually here on KOTH. My apologies for any inconvenience this may cause to legitimate users of Gmail, but enough is enough and I'm not going to keep compromising my forums because Google refuses to get its act together.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Is it just me or is Google getting hit up with some pretty annoying stuff lately? I can't access anything on my gmail account (which I rarely use) without getting some stupid "Jumping" problem. Actually now that I think on it, even the search engine is doing the same thing.

I've released the restraint on Gmail accounts now after the upgrade - we'll see how it goes.
