WADDELL FASTEST AT DICKEYVILLE HILLCLIMB

By: Bud Northrup - Sept 28, 2003 - Dickeyville, WI

256 riders showed up to challenge the 500 foot long twin hills at Dickeyville, Wisconsin on September 28. The hill was the site of the 2003 National Championships just the month before, and featured two hills, side by side, one very well groomed for the smaller bikes, while the one on the right was an extremely challenging hill.

Harold Waddell was the fastest rider at the Nationals, and so no one was surprised when he repeated that feat on this day. Riding a REALLY big bore Suzuki four, Waddell flew over the tough right side in a dazzling 10.676 seconds on his first ride to set a time no one else could match all day – in any class. Mark Wood was his closest competitor in the Open class with a 13.285 second time.

Todd Cipala, riding his Kawasaki Triple, was the closest to Waddell’s fast time as he carded a 11.361 second time on his second round in the 750cc class to take that win. Kaleb Northrup, also on a Kawasaki triple, ran second to Cipala with a 12.851 second time.

Luke Haas, riding a CR500, also posted a very fast time, a 12.108 second time to win the biggest class of them all – the 600cc class, holding 44 riders. He needed a time that good for the win, as Todd Cipala was very close on his heels with a 12.169 second time on his KX500.

In youth class action, Mitch Koester took the 50cc class win with Zachary DeGross second, Jeremy Johnson grabbed the 65cc class win with DeGross again running second, Seth Seymour was the 85cc Junior Mini winner ahead of Alex Gerdes and Jay Sallstrom took the 85cc Senior Mini win with Jared Gitter second.

Other amateur class winners were Danny Mears in the 125cc class, Aaron Prebe in the 200cc class, Kirk Mueller in the 250cc class and Jay Curtis in the 450cc class. Steve Cain took the 600cc 4-stroke class win, Lynn Weber took the 400cc Stock class win and Glen Fuegen was the fastest in the Open Stock class.

In senior class action, Mike Bronk took the +40 class win with an excellent 12.479 second run on his big Yamaha, and Greg Haas, still smiling from his National Championship win in August, was the fastest of the AARP card holders in the +50 class.
