GREEN’S GREAT AT CAYUGA

Shane Green enjoyed a double win evening as well as taking the Fast Time award at the Pleasure Riders hill climb on September 6.  He got his first win in the 450cc class on his KTM380, his first round time of 4.293 seconds good enough for the win. He also set the Fast Time of the night to that point.  Vance Lashley claimed second on his 450 Honda with a 4.362 second time, with Matt Peters third.

Green had to work harder to win the 600cc class, as 15 year old ‘Dangerous’ Dylan Brady set a new fast time on his first ride on a CR500 borrowed from Randy Trosper.  Brady flew high over the 155 foot, 3 stage hill in a sizzling 4.297 second for the first round lead, with Green posting a 4.353 second time.  In the second round, however, Green twisted the throttle tight on his KX500 and blasted over in 4.238 seconds to take the class lead, and set a new fast time.  Brady responded with another good run, but his 4.283 second time fell a bit short.  John Colbert claimed third.

Matt Peters spoiled Green’s bid for a perfect night, as he posted a 4.290 second time to win the 250cc class – fastest time of the night to that point.  Green was close, taking second with 4.444 second run and young Brett Kalaher third.  Kalaher had the class lead at 4.456 seconds in the first round on his KX250, but broke his front hub on a crash landing over the top, and couldn’t get to the line for the second round.

Kalaher was a double class winner also, however, taking his first in the 85cc Junior Mini class.  His 5.086 second winning time on his KX85 was also good for the Youth Fast Time award.  Austin Shelton was second with D.J. Watson third.

Kalaher’s second win came in the 125cc class where his 4.593 second run on his KX125 was easily the best of the class.  Dylan Brady claimed second with a 4.819 second time and Joe McGurer took third.

Paul Hillard also was a double winner, his first running unopposed in the 750cc class.  But he had plenty of competition in the Senior (+40) class, and claimed that class win with a very quick 4.361 second time on his 750cc Kawasaki triple.  District 15 Hill Climb Referee Scott Petty was second in 4.514 seconds and Mike Pulver third.

Green, Brady and Kalaher continued their hot riding on Sunday, with Chris Brown also taking double class wins.  Green came very close to a perfect night on Saturday, and accomplished that feat on Sunday – actually winning FOUR classes, plus taking the Fast Time award.

Green set the early fast time with a 4.378 second time on his first ride in the 250cc class, with Brady close behind with a 4.386 second time.  In the second round, Brady moved into the class lead with a fine 4.302 second run on his Honda, but Green responded with a 4.231 second time for the win.  Kyle Lashley was third.

In the 450cc class, Green literally flew his KTM high over the crest in an eye opening 4.169 seconds in the first round to really raise the bar in the Fast Time war, as well as setting a time no one in the 450 class could match.  Vance Lashley was closest with a 4.308 second time and Gordon green third.

The Green-Brady war continued in the 600cc class with Green taking the first round lead with a 4.185 second run on his KX500.  Brady responded with an incredible 4.119 second time in the second round, sailing the Trosper Honda far off the top.  But Green was up to the challenge yet again, as he let the Kawasaki all out, posting an even faster 4.072 second time to take the class win, and the Fast Time of the day.  Al Petty claimed third on his KX500 with a 4.298 second time.

But the Green-Brady war wasn’t over yet, as both were riding in the King of the Hill class – a one run winner take all shootout for the ten fastest riders of the day.  Tom Brown rode first and set the time to beat at 4.301 seconds, and rider after rider failed to get under that time – until only two were left - Brady and Green.  Brady unleashed what appeared to be a perfect ride, sailing over the top in a remarkable 4.063 seconds, appearing to smash Green’s second straight quest for perfection.  But Green was not to be denied, as he dug a little deeper, and found yet more speed – flying high over the top in 4.032 seconds to take the coveted ‘King’ class.

As a side note, this was probably Shane’s last ride in front of his hometown club and friends, as he will be riding professionally in 2009.  He left on a perfect day – no better way to go.  We will miss him in District 15/17, but wish him well in the pros.

Chris Brown was a double class winner, taking both the 400cc Stock class and the Open Stock classes.  His 4.342 second first round ride on his CR250 bested Mark Schroeder on his KTM300 and his 4.484 second ride.  In Open Stock, he delivered an incredibly fast 4.284 second run on his CR500, with Vance Lashley second.

Brett Kalaher had a perfect day of his own winning the two classes he entered (85cc Junior Mini and 125cc), and claimed the Youth Fast Time award.
