The Pleasure Riders Motorcycle Club hosted the season ending hill climb weekend for Districts 15 and 17 at their club grounds near Cayuga, Indiana.  It had rained hard the night before and the 155 foot three stage hill was slick and the landings after the breakers featured lots of water and deep mud.  The Quads were given many practice rides, then ran first, but the hill was still quite a slippery challenge.  116 riders took the challenge, with Eric Wheelwright emerging with a perfect night, winning three classes and taking the Fast Time Award.

Wheelwright’s first win came in the 450cc class where his first round time of 4.550 seconds was good enough for the class win.  He beat it himself, however, topping the hill on his CRF450 Honda thumper in 4.545 seconds.  Class point leader Shane Green put his KTM 380 over the top in 4.799 seconds for second place with Kurt Krohner in third.

Wheelwright came back with the fast Honda to also claim the 600cc 4-Stroke win with a 4.554 second time.  Krohner and Chuck Schroeder finished second and third.

In the highly competitive 600CC class, Tom Brown took the early lead with a 4.810 second run on his Honda, and ‘Fast Andy’ Fortner carded an even quicker 4.803 seconds  on his first ride.  But Wheelwright continued his fast running with a 4.422 second run on his CR500, a time which would have held for the class win and Fast Time.  In second round action, Brent Bowman topped out in 4.674 seconds to move in to second, while Justin Trent carded a 4.735 second time to take third.  Wheelwright then took a ‘free ride’ and beat his own fast time with an even better 4.414 second time, completing his clean sweep of his classes and Fast Time.

Mark Schroeder was a double class winner on his YZ250 Yamaha, his first coming in the 250cc class.  Class point leading Mike Popham took an early class lead in the first round with a good 5.084 second run on his Yamaha, but newcomer Randy Shuman slipped under that with a 5.032 second run on his KX250.  Schroeder was sitting in sixth place at the break with a 5.470 second time, but took his extensions off and came back strong on his second round ride, flying his stock length bike over the top in 4.626 seconds to take the win. Shuman improved his time with a 4.896 second run to take second, with Popham also improving with a 4.984 second run for third.

Schroeder’s second win came in the 400cc Stock Class where his 4.864 second first round run held up for that win, with Shuman his closest challenger with a 5.027 second run.

In youth class action, Dakota Blakeney was a double class winner, taking both the 65cc class wins with Brett Kalaher second, and the 85cc Junior Mini class win, with Caleb Emory second.  Kolt Kinsler grabbed the 50cc class win with Cole Garriott second.

‘Blazin Blake’ Cappello had a great night  also, as he grabbed the win in the youth 85CC Senior Mini class with a 5.861 second ride, which also claimed the Youth Fast Time award on his KX85.  Blake then returned on his KX125 and posted a 5.271 second time in the 125cc class on his first ride – which would have been a winner, but he beat it himself with an even faster 5.192 second round time.    Justin James claimed second in the Senior Mini Class while point leading R.D. Miller III claimed second in the 125cc class.
