GREEN AND JENNER FAST AT CAYUGA

Shane Green had a perfect night at the Neoga hill climb on September 17, and came very close to making it two in a row at the Pleasure Riders climb on September 23.  Green took 2 class wins and the Fast Time award.  His Fast Time ride came in the extremely competitive 600cc class, and he had to come from behind to earn it.  His 4.427 second first round ride had him in fourth place behind Justin Trent, Cody Jenner and D.J. Compton.  Trent was sitting on the halftime fast time with a 4.303 second run.  In the second round, however, Green flew his KX500 over the top of the 155 foot hill in a blazing 4.208 seconds to take the class win and the Fast Time, his fifth of the season. Jenner improved his time with a good 4.246 second run to move under Trent to second place.

Green also came from behind to win the 450cc class.  His 4.728 second first ride had him in second place at intermission behind Jenner, who topped out in 4.566 seconds to take the early lead.  Green responded in the second round with a 4.487 second run to take the win with Jenner dropping to second place.

Green’s perfect night was spoiled in the 250cc class where Mike Popham delivered a 4.521 second ride on his YZ250 to take the first round lead, while Green crashed at 148 feet.  In the second round, Green kept the rubber side down and sailed over the top in 4.462 seconds to take the lead. But Popham was up to the challenge, flying over in 4.407 seconds to take the win.  ‘Blazin Blake’ Cappello was only 1/100 of a second behind Green in third place on his Yamaha.

In Youth class action, Joe (‘Jammin Joe’) McGurer topped the 115 foot youth hill in 3.473 seconds on his KX85 to take the 85cc Junior Mini class lead in the first round and set the Fast Time for the youth riders. It was Joe’s fourth Fast Time of the year.  That time held up all night.  Class point leader Brett Kalaher was his closest competitor in the class with a 3.645 second time on his Kawasaki.

National Champion Dakota ‘D.J.’ Watson sailed his little Cobra over in 4.224 seconds for the 50cc class win with Steve ‘Bug’ Coon Jr second on his Cobra.  Brett Kalaher was the fastest in the 65cc class with a 3.781 second time on his KX65 with Logan Moody second in 3.857 seconds.  Dylan Brady was the best of the Senior Mini class, winning with a 3.538 second first round time on his CR85 – and was the closest challenger to McGurer for the Youth Fast Time award.  Jessica Coon took second on her KX85.

Mike Popham enjoyed a double win night also, as he rode his YZ450F thumper to the win in the 600cc 4-Stroke class.  His 4.447 second first round ride held up all night, with Justin Trent taking second on his Honda.

On Sunday, Green and Jenner continued their personal shootout, this time with Jenner coming out on top in the Fast Time war.  Cody didn’t waste any time as he flew his Honda over the top in a blistering 4.201 seconds on his first ride to take the 600cc class win and set an early fast time. Green was in third place behind Justin Trent with a 4.526 second time at intermission, but moved up to second place with a 4.346 second time in the second round.

Green still enjoyed a double win day, his first coming in the 250cc class where his first round 4.429 second run held up for the win, with Mike Popham taking second with a 4.541 second time.  It was Popham who ruined Green’s bid for a perfect the night before by beating him in the 250cc class.

Green’s second win came in the 450cc class where his first round 4.374 second time would have held up, but he beat it himself with a  4.309 second hilltopper in second round action.  His closest challenger was none other than Cody Jenner with a 4.528 second run.

In Youth class action, Brett Kalaher showed what he was made of.  Brett crashed hard on his first ride in the 65cc class and injured his leg.  His 3.657 second run was the best of the first round, but Logan Moody slipped under him in the second round with a 3.645 second run to take the class win.  Kalaher spent some time with the medics and rested up a bit, then limped to the base of the hill with his KX85 in the Junior Mini class and flew it over in an exceptional 3.334 seconds to take the class win and Youth Fast Time award, his sixth of the season.  ‘Jammin Joe McGurer was his closest challenger for the class win and Fast Time as he topped out in 3.365 seconds. Brett hurt his leg again on a hard landing and sat out the second round, satisfied with his Fast Time first round effort.

In other class action D.J. Watson took the 50cc class win in 4.171 seconds on his Cobra with Steve ‘Bug’ Coon Jr taking second.  Senior Mini class point leader Jeremy James stretched his lead even further with a 3.519 second winning ride, with Dylan Brady close on his heels with a 4.533 second time.
