The 'Wild Child', Tom Daniels and 'Wild Wade' Schultz waged an exciting battle for the fast time trophy at the Pleasure Riders hillclimb on September 1. Riding his 750cc 'Wild Thing', a beautiful and very bad Kawasaki Triple, Daniels took the first round lead in the 750cc class with a fast, but beatable, 4.099 second time. Schultz was well down in 4th place with a 4.234 second run on his Yamaha twin. In the second round, 'Fast Andy' Fortner nailed a 4.021 second time on his 'Hondasaki' triple, but Daniels responded with a blistering high flying run, stopping the clock in 3.865 seconds, moving into the class lead and setting a fast time almost everybody figured would stand. But Wade Schultz wasn't convinced, and the wild man from Lisbon, Iowa pegged his throttle off the line and held it there, the Yamaha roaring, jumping and flying over the top in a blazing 3.839 seconds to take the lead, and set a new fast time which would stand up for the night.
    Ron Todd, Matt Peters and Scott Sheets Jr were all double class winners.
Todd, who just turned 50, celebrated his senior citizenship by winning both the Senior (+40) and Super Senior (+50) classes. Riding a KX500, Todd took the Senior Class win with a very good 4.119 second time on his second ride, following a 4.162 second run in the first half. Boots Weber came all the way in from Wathena, Kansas to take second place on his Yamaha twin with a 4.158 second first round run, taking the class lead into intermission. Class leader Randy Trosper finished third on his CR500 with a 4.229 second run followed by Mark Peters and Doug Campbell.
    Todd didn't wait until the second round to assert himself in the Super Senior class, as he nailed a beautiful 4.028 second time on his first ride to take the overall fast time in the first round. Class leader Gayle Jenkins claimed second with a 4.259 second time on his Honda, with Bud Northrup and Keith Klett following him.
    Peters took his first win in the 250cc class. He took the the first round lead on his Honda with a 4.283 second run, but saw that time beat in the second run first by Don Barber Jr with a 4.180 second run on his Honda, then by Matt Ringstrom with a 4.213 second run on his KX250. Peters, the district point leader, was up to the challenge and sailed over the top in 4.173 seconds on his second ride to take the win. Cody Jenner and Jon Creek filled out the top five.
Peters second win came in the 400cc class on his KTM380, and he had to come from behind to do that. Jared McKay set the first round time with a good 4.357 second time on Steve Shafer's Yamaha, while Peters delivered a 4.363 second time. In the second round, Peters really twisted the throttle on the KTM and it responded by flying high over the breakers and over the top in 4.069 seconds to take the win. McKay responded with an all out attempt of his own, but crashed hard at 120 feet and had to settle for second place. Marcus Brown, Paul Hillard and Gordon Green filled out the top five places.
    Sheets rode his Harley to wins in both the Open and Pushrod classes. His 4.069 second time was just barely enough to edge the Wild Child, Tom Daniels, in the Open class who turned in a 4.083 second time on Steve Shafer's Harley. It was the other wild man, Wade Schultz who was his closest challenger in the Pushrod class, carding a 4.186 second time on his Harley, just short of the 4.149 seconds 'Scooter' posted to win the class.
    In youth class action, Dylan Brady thrilled the crowd as he topped the hill in 6.361 seconds on his Polini 50, edging Donnie Robbins and his Cobra who had taken the first round lead with a 6.483 second ride. Kieven Hillard rode his 60cc Kawasaki to the 85cc Junior Mini win with a blazing 5.653 second ride in the second round, taking the win from Cody Rankin who had carded a 5.720 second time on his YX80 on his first ride. Brent Bowman was the fastest of the Senior Mini riders, taking that win with a 5.044 second first round ride on his RM80, with Billy Hanes running second on his KX80 in 5.123 seconds.
    Other amateur class winners were Paul Hart in the 125cc class, Jared McKay in the 200cc class and Randy Trosper in the 600cc class. Jon Creek took the 400cc Stock Class win, Scott Pearson was the Open Stock winner, Steve Shafer grabbed the 600cc 4-stroke win and Ryan Garriott was the fastest of the Quad riders.
