‘Fast Andy’ Fortner lived up to his name again at the Pleasure Riders hillclimb on the last Sarurday night in September. 147 riders rode the 150 foot, three stage hill, but none as fast as Fortner. Riding a CR500 Honda, Fortner flew high and far over the top in 4.098 seconds on his first ride in the 600cc class, and no one was able to match him the rest of the night. Jared McKay was closest in the 600cc class, posting a fine 4.136 second time for second place with the ‘Rocketman’, Randy Trosper turning a 4.198 second time on his Honda for third. Ron Todd and Doug Campbell were close behind Trosper with 4.214 and 4.251 second times on their KX500s.

Fortner was actually his own closest challenger for the overall fast time, as his 4.126 second winning time in the 750cc class on his Kaw triple was second fastest overall. The next 3 places in the 750 class also went to Triples – ridden by Paul Hillard, Mark Goodman Jr and Jason Northrup. Boots Weber brought his beautiful Yamaha twin in from Wathena, Kansas to take fifth.

Scott Pearson was also a double winner, riding a pair of CR450 Hondas. Riding his stock length bike in the Open Stock class (401cc and up), he carded a 4.463 second time on his first ride which held up for the win. Tom Brown grabbed second on his CR500 in 4.509 seconds, with Butch Fetters, Doug Campbell and Tate Pearson filling out the top five places.

Pearson returned just a short while later with his stretched Honda and claimed the 600CC four stroke class win with a 4.526 second time. (Yes – he was faster on the stock length bike). Boots Weber, riding an incredible CBR600 powered rocket, spun his tire the entire length of the hill and stopped the clock in 4.566 seconds for second place. Butch Fetters, Tate Pearson and Bud Northrup claimed the next three spots.

Jon Creek came from behind to take the 250cc class win after sitting in fourth at intermission with a 4.505 second time. Gordon Green had set the best time at 4.439 seconds on his YZ250 in the first round, but one by one, got knocked down to fifth place. Mark Schroeder nailed a 4.353 second run on his stock YZ250, and looked like he had the win until Creek flew his RM250 over in a class winning 4.353 seconds. Mark Goodman Jr slipped into third on his KX250 in 4.371 seconds and Don Barber Jr claimed fourth on his CR250 with a 4.406 second time.

Schroeder did get a win on his YZ, however, as he cleared the hill in a sizzling 4.264 seconds in the 400 Stock class for that win. District 17 point leader Matt Ringstrom was second on his KX250 with a 4.377 second run, with Andy Fortner, John Colbert and Chris Brown filling the next three spots.

Gordon Green claimed his third consecutive win in the 200cc class, with a 4.723 second time on his old (1984), but still fast KDX200. Point leader Jacob (Crazy Jake) Tackitt tied for second with Brent Warfel with a 4.826 second time, then won the tie breaking runoff ride to claim second. Mike Peters and Bud Northrup finished 4th and 5th on KDX200’s.

In youth class action, ‘Dangerous’ Dylan Brady rode his Polini to a 7.444 second win in the 50cc Automatic class with Matt Gocken taking second on his Action in 8.887 seconds. Garrett Holycross climbed 85 feet on his little Honda to win the 50cc Quad class with Jade Zollars second. Shane Green flew his YZ85 over the top in 5.510 seconds to win the Junior mini class with Kevin Bond claiming second on his KX80. Richard Miller III came in from Michigan to win the Senior Mini class on his Honda with point leader Mike Popham taking second on his YZ85.

In other amateur action, Paul Hart took the win in the 125cc class and Matt Peters was the fastest of the 450cc class. Jake Lacefield won the Open Class on his 98 cubic inch Harley, but Buzz Green grabbed the Pushrod win on his classy Harley. Doug Campbell was the fastest of the Seniors (40+) and Ron Todd was the best of the AARP card holders in the Super Senior (50+) class. David Brown rode his incredible CR500 powered quad to the win in the Quad class. RESULTS:
