FORTNER & BLAKENEY FAST AT CAYUGA

“Fast Andy’ Fortner was the man again at the Pleasure Riders hill climb near Cayuga, Indiana, taking the Fast Time Trophy and cash for the second straight day. Riding his CR500 in the 600cc class, Fortner flew over the 155 foot, 3 stage hill in 4.233 seconds on his first ride – a time which held up all day for both the class win and Fast Time of the Day. Scott Petty, the District 15 Hill Climb Referee, was his closest challenger with a 4.541 second time on his Honda. Jon Creek topped out in 4.683 seconds for third place.

Dakota Blakeney had a perfect day in Youth competition, winning both his classes and taking the Youth Fast Time Award. Riding his KTM65 in the 65cc class, he flew over the top in a good 5.594 seconds on his first ride, a time which would have held up for the class win and Fast Time, but he beat it himself with an even quicker 5.383 second run on his second ride. Logan Moody finished second on his KX65 with a 6.039 second run.

Blakeney then returned immediately in the 85cc Junior Mini Class and took that win also – but had to work a little harder to do it. ‘Jammin Joe’ McGurer, the Youth Fast Time winner from the night before, posted a 5.653 second time on his KX85 to take the first round lead, and Brett Kalaher ran a %.746 second time for second, with Blakeney and a 5.777 second time in third. In the second round, however, Blakeney popped his Suzuki over in 5.645 seconds to take the lead by only 8/1,000’s of a second over McGurer. McGurer crashed on his second ride at 145 feet in a full throttle attempt to reclaim the lead, and had to settle for second. Kalaher improved his time to 5.657 seconds for third place, leaving the top three riders crammed into a 12/100’s second time span!

Veteran Ron Todd was also a double class winner on his KX500. Riding in the Senior (40+) he carded a good 4.981 second time on his first ride, which held up for the class win. Scott Petty, who had a winning streak of five straight in the class snapped, claimed second on his CR500 with a 5.023 second time. Todd then brought his bike back in the Super Senior (50+) class and delivered a very quick 5.144 second run for that win, with Billy Pearson taking second on his Suzuki 400 thumper.

In other youth action, Cole Garriott took the 50cc class win for the second straight day with Garett Holy cross second. Blake Cappello was a repeat winner also in the 85cc Senior Mini class, with John Rice in second place.
