The Pleasure Riders hosted the 2008 Indiana State Hill Climb Championships on July 27, with Matt Peters, from Neoga, Illinois, emerging as the fastest rider of the day.  Peters fast time came in a surprising class – the 250cc class, proving once again that smaller isn’t always slower.  Peters flew his CR250 Honda over the top of the 155 foot 3-stage hill in a blistering 4.270 seconds on his first ride to set a time no one would match the rest of the day.  Shane Green was his closest competitor – both in the 250 class and for overall fast time.  Green’s 4.421 second time was good for second in the 250 class, with young ‘Dangerous Dylan’ Brady posting a 4.425 second time for third.

Green claimed the 600cc championship with a 4.305 second run on his KX500, overtaking Scott Petty who had taken the first round lead with a 4.350 second time.  That was the second fastest time of the day. Tom Brown claimed the third place trophy with a 4.426 second time.

Petty, the District 15 Hill Climb Referee, did claim a championship of his own,

However, with a fine 4.308 second Senior (+40) class winning time. Paul Hillard and Mike Bacon followed in second and third. Petty’s time was third fast for the day.

Young Brett Kalaher and John Michael Gocken were double State Champions.  Kalaher got his first win in the 85cc Junior Mini class, with a 5.339 second first round ride, which also held up for the Youth Fast Time trophy.  Austin Shelton and Logan Moody were second and third..

Kalaher then came back to ride with the big boys in the 125cc class and had to come from behind in the second half for that win.  Joe McGurer set the first round leading time with a fine 4.793 second time on his KX85, with Dylan Brady in second with a 4.865 second time – both ahead of Kalaher who posted a 4.907 second run.  But in the second round, Kalaher streaked over the top on his Yamaha in 4.657 seconds to take the win, with McGurer and Brady moving down to second and third.

Gocken’s first win came in the 600 four stroke class, with a first round run of 4.327 seconds which held up for the class win on his CRF450 Honda.  Matt Altfillisch, also Honda mounted, scored a 4.448 second time for second place, with the District 17 Hill Climb Director, Gordon Green, claiming third on his Yamaha in 4.563 seconds.

Gocken brought his stock length Honda back to also win the Open Stock class.  Again, his first round ride, this a fast 4.317 seconds, was good for the win. Vance Lashley was quick with a 4.410 second time for second, with veteran Randy Trosper third in 4.586 seconds.  Gocken’s class winning times were 4th and 5th fastest of the day.

In other youth class action, Clint Garriott won the 50cc class with Levi Peters second, D.J. Watson was the 65 cc class winner with Cole Garriott second, and Joe McGurer was the best of the 85cc Senior mini riders with Jeremy James second..

The Garriott family did quite well for the day as Wade Garriott was the 2-Stroke Quad champ with Ryan Garriott second.  In the 4-Stroke Quad action, Jody Timmins claimed the championship with Jim Mahan second.
