‘Fast Andy’ Fortner had a perfect night at the Pleasure Riders hillclimb on July 13, winning all three of the classes he entered and also claiming the Fast Time award. His first win and fast time came in the very large and competitive 600cc class, where he flew his CR500 over the top of the 150 foot hill in a sizzling 4.047 seconds on his first ride. The time would not be beaten for the rest of the night, giving him both the class win and the coveted Fast Time award. Young gun Jared McKay was his closest challenger as the 16 year old from Neoga posted a fine 4.142 seconds on his KX500 for second, while yet another young gun, 15 year old Jacob Tackitt, rode Gayle Jenkin’s Honda to a third place finish in 4.168 seconds – only 2/1,000’s quicker than Scott Petty and his 4.170 second fourth place ride on his Honda. Butch ‘Fearless’ Fetters was quick also on his Kawasaki, carding a 4.199 second run for fifth place.

Fortner’s second win came on his ‘Hondasaki’ triple in the 750cc class where his 4.201 second time was a winner, with Greg Rankin and Josh Brown running second and third on their Yamaha twins. Fast Andy completed his clean sweep on a Honda CR450 borrowed from Gayle Jenkins, riding the thumper to the win in the Open Stock class with a 4.384 second first round ride. No one in the class could match it in either round, with Tom Brown coming the closest with a 4.586 second run on his CR500. Scott Pearson, also riding a CR450 was close behind Brown with a 4.595 second time.

Matt Peters enjoyed a double win evening, taking both the 250cc and 450cc class wins. Riding a CR250, Peters had to come from behind to take the 250 class win, as Kevin Cappello set a first round class leading time of 4.480 seconds on his YZ250. In the second round, however, Peters, the defending point champion from 2001, asserted himself with a fine 4.364 high flying ride for the win. Kevin Ryan was close to Peters with a 4.382 second run on his KX250 and Mark Schroeder slipped his stock length YZ250 into the third spot with a 4.408 second run.

Peters win in the 400cc class came a little easier, as his first round 4.361 second time on his KTM380 held up for the win. Butch Fetters, riding Peters’ YZ400F thumper, claimed second, followed by Scott Pearson, Paul Hillard and Ernie Bruss.

Randy ‘Buzz’ Green was also a double winner, riding his Harley to wins in both the Open and Pushrod classes, with Steve Shafer and his Harley running second in both.

Other amateur class winners were Billy Hanes in the 125cc class, Jake Tackitt in the 200cc class, Scott Petty in the Senior (+40) class and Ron Todd in the AARP (+50) class. Butch Fetters was the fastest of the 600 4-stroke riders, Mark Schroeder took the 400 Stock class win and David Brown was the best of the Quad riders.

In youth class action, ‘Dangerous’ Dylan Brady rode his Polini to the light in 8.235 seconds to take the 50cc Automatic class win, the only rider in the class to stop the clock. Dakota Blakeny took second with a 127 foot effort on his Cobra, followed by Samantha Brown, Matt Gocken and Garrett Holycross.

Nick Burke rode his KX85 to the win in a very large 85cc Junior Mini class, overtaking Shane Green with a 5.471 second run in the second round. Green had taken the first round lead on his YZ85 with a good 5.533 second run. ‘Big Al’ Petty, ‘Goose’ Weaver and Kevin Bond filled out the top five places in the 15 rider class.

Mike Popham stretched his point lead in the Senior Mini class with a very good 5.193 second first round ride. Richard Miller III was his closest challenger with a 5.308 second run on his Honda, followed by Spencer Smith, John Gocken and Chuck Matthewson.
