‘Fast Andy’ Fortner picked up yet another of many Fast Time awards at the Pleasure Riders hillclimb on Saturday night, July 12. Riding his Honda CR500, Fortner sailed over the top of the 150 foot hill in the first round in 4.267 seconds to set the fast time mark at intermission. His ride was barely good enough, as Jared McKay posted as 4.270 second time on his first ride. McKay charged the hill hard on his second run in an attempt to overtake Fortner, but went too far vertical off the second breaker and looped his KX500, crashing hard at 70 feet. His first round ride would, however, hold up for second place. Just to show his ride wasn’t a fluke, Fortner ran again and blazed over the top in a 4.100 second crowd pleasing time to nail down the 600cc class win and the Fast Time award.

Fortner wasn’t done yet, either, as he came back for a second win in the 750cc class, riding his screaming triple over the top in 4.465 seconds to round out a perfect night for him. Paul Hillard was second with a 4.627 second time on his triple.

Brent Bowman has been coming on strong in the 125cc class, and grabbed his fifth consecutive win – but he had to work for it. Bowman and Josh Mingee turned identical 4.880 second rides to tie for first, so had to have a tiebreaker runoff. Mingee turned a good 5.116 second time, but Bowman crested the hill in 5.005 seconds to take the win, stretch his point lead, and keep his win streak alive.

Butch ‘Fearless’ Fetters has been all but unbeatable in the 600cc four stroke class. The National Champion is the class, Fetters got third on the first climb of the year, and has won every event he’s entered since - ELEVEN wins in a row. His 4.325 second run on his first ride on his KTM520 was good enough for this evening’s win, as his closest competitor, Will Dalenberg, claimed second on his 450 Honda with a 4.476 second round ride.

The news in the Youth Classes was that Shane Green did NOT win in the 85cc Junior Mini class. Green started the year with six straight wins, then crashed twice at Ottawa, then ran off another six wins. He flew his YZ85 over the top in 6.087 seconds in the first round, but Blake Cappello carded a better 5.951 second time to take the lead into intermission. In the second round, Green appeared to have pulled out yet another win as he flew over the top in an excellent 5.751 seconds to take the lead. But minutes later, Cappello answered with an even quicker 5.735 second run on his KX85 to take the win and snap Green’s win streak at six for the second time.

In other Youth action, Cole Garriott took the 50cc class win with Samantha Brown second, Dakota Blakeny was the 65cc class winner with Caleb Emory in second, and Mike Popham stretched his lead in the 85CC Senior Mini class with a win there, with Cody Rankin running second.

In other amateur class action, Jake Tackitt took the 200cc class win, Jon Creek was the 250cc class winner, Matt Peters got his fifth straight 450cc class win, and Jason Northrup took the Open Class win. Scott Petty stretched his lead in the senior class with a win there, and Ron Todd did the same in the Super Senior class. Mark Schroeder picked up his fourth win in the 400cc Stock class with Scott Pearson the fastest in the Open Stock. In Quad action, Ryan Garriott took the 2-stroke class win while David Brown was the best in the four stroke class.
