It was a wet and muddy weekend at the Pleasure Riders club grounds, but 127 riders were there to ride the 155 foot hill despite the conditions on Saturday night, with 131 running on Sunday. The Gocken family went home very happy as 15 year old John Michael and his 9 year old brother Matt combined for seven class wins for the weekend doubleheader.

    John Michael won all three classes he entered on Saturday, taking the wins in the 450cc, 600cc 4-stroke, and 400cc stock classes. On Sunday, he repeated his wins in the 450cc and the 600cc 4-stroke classes, but had to settle for second place in the 400cc stock class – where he finished second behind the reigning National Champion, Mark Schroeder. Matt joined the win parade with his brother by taking the wins in both the 50cc automatic and 65cc classes on Sunday, after taking the second place trophies in both classes on Saturday night. The brother’s sister, 12 year old Dusti, also joined in on the family fun as she claimed the 5^th place trophies each day in the 85cc Senior Mini classes.

    ‘Fast Andy’ Fortner lived up to his nickname again Saturday night by flying his CR500 over the top of the slick hill in 4.375 seconds in the first round of the 600cc class, a time that would hold up all night for not only the class win, but also the beautiful fast time trophy and the $100 that went with it. His closest challenger was Cody Jenner, who nailed a 4.404 second time for second place in the same class.

    On Sunday, it was Jared McKay who claimed the Fast Time, but he had to come from behind to do it. Young Justin Trent topped the hill in 4.462 seconds on his CR500 in the first round of the 600cc class to take the fast time in to the second half. The time held up for a long time in the big class, until McKay carded a 4.359 second time on his KX540. Cody Jenner also slipped under Trent’s time with a 4.381 second time on his CR500, taking second place for the second day in a row. McKay enjoyed a great weekend, as he claimed four class wins. In addition to his 600cc win on Sunday, he claimed the 250cc class wins on both days, and also took the Open Stock class win on Sunday.

    The club also awards a Youth Fast Time trophy, and Shane Green claimed it on Saturday night. Green is the 2003 85cc Junior Mini National Champion, and, at age 12, is riding in the Senior Mini class this year. He put his YZ85 over the top in 5.266 seconds to take the Youth award. District point leading Blake Cappello was his closest challenger with a 5.623 second time on his KX85. On Sunday, Kieven Hillard, riding his KX80, sailed high over the top in 5.420 seconds to take the Senior Mini class win and the big trophy. Green was second behind him in 5.660 seconds.
