156 riders showed up on June 26 to ride the Pleasure Riders 155 foot hill, with 148 remaining for the Sunday event the next day.

    ‘Crazy Jake’ Tackitt, riding one of Gayle Jenkins’ RevLoc Hondas, snared the Fast Time trophy and money with an exceptional 4.217 second run on his first ride in the 600cc class. His closest challenger was his ‘team mate’, Brent Bowman, who carded a 4.265 second time on the second Jenkins bike, giving ‘Team Jenkins’ the top two spots. A down note for the team, however, was that Tackitt decided to take a ‘free ride’ after all the class had run in the second round, and he had the win locked in. He landed hard off the second breaker on the rear wheel and an incredible grinding noise was heard – the Honda suffered severe damage and would not make it back for the Sunday run – putting Jake on his old RM465 for that event. Some ‘free rides’ can be quite expensive!

    Matt Peters had a double win evening, winning the 450cc and 600cc four stroke classes. Peters rides a KTM 380 in the 450cc class and rode Butch Fetters’ KTM520 in the four stroke class. His 4.901 second first round ride in the 450cc class stood up for the win, with Gordon Green running second on his KTM360 with a 4.954 second run. Peters posted a 4.936 second time on his first ride in the four stroke class, which did not hold up for the class win. John Michael Gocken flew his CR450 over in 4.653 seconds to take the class lead, but Peters overtook him in the second round with a very quick 4.541 second run to claim the win.

    Mark Schroeder had a good evening on his stock length YZ250. He took the win in the 250cc class with a 4.569 second run, overtaking Jon Creek who had carded a 4.666 second time on his RM250. But Schroeder, the 2003 National Champion in the 400cc Stock class had to settle for second in that class when his good friend, John (the flying dentist) Colbert nailed a 4.790 second time on his YZ250, just 1/100 of a second quicker than Schroeder’s 4.800 second time.

    The Pleasure Riders also give a Fast Time Trophy to the fastest youth rider. Shane Green, the 2003 Junior Mini National Champion, claimed that honor with a 6.018 second run on his YZ85 while winning the Senior Mini class.
