BROWN’S RED HOT, FETTERS TRIPLES AT CAYUGA HILLCLIMB

It looked like a repeat of the the Saturday night Fast Time war would occur on Sunday at the Pleasure Riders Sunday hillclimb. On Saturday night, Randy ‘Rocketman’ Trosper set the fast time in the 600cc class on his first ride, and held it nearly all night until ‘Fast Andy’ Fortner took it from him deep in the second round in the 750cc class.

On this day, Trosper again set the fast time in the first round in the 600cc class, a 4.196 second run on his CR500, and Fortner crashed at 93 feet. In second round action, however, Fortner delivered another of his high flying rides on his Honda to post a new fast time of 4.180 seconds. Trosper couldn’t beat that time, so it looked like history had indeed repeated itself. But then came Chris Brown on his Honda, and he unleashed a picture perfect ride of his own stopping the clock in a sizzling 4.175 seconds – slipping under Fortner by 5/1,000’s of a second for the class win. Fast Andy turned in a good time on his 750 triple in the next class, but his 4.212 second run, good enough for that class win, wasn’t enough to reclaim the Fast Time trophy and money. Darryl Johnson finished second on his BSA behind Fortner in the 750 class with Jason Northrup running 3rd.

Butch Fetters was a triple winner, with wins in the 450cc, Open Stock and 600 Four Stroke classes. Riding Steve Shafer’s YZ400, he grabbed the 450cc win with a 4.794 second run, with Paul Hillard and his 350 twin running second. Riding his classy KTM520, ‘Fearless’ Fetters was the fastest of the Open Stock class riders, carding a fine 4.337 on the unstretched bike with Tom Brown running second on his CR500. Fetters brought the KTM back in the 600 4-stroke class and took that win with a 4.443 second time with Curt Randall running second.

Scott Petty continued his good riding in the Senior (40+) class with his second consecutive win, a fine 4.224 second effort on his CR500 to barely edge Trosper who carded a 4.231 second run on his Honda. Trosper has been dominating the Senior class this year, but he must be looking over his shoulder somewhat now at the hard charging Petty and Mark Peters who have split the wins in the last 4 races.

Gayle Jenkins resumed his winning ways in the Super Senior (50+) class, having been bested for the first time this year the night before (by Ron Todd). The ‘Old Pro’ posted a decent 4.796 second time on his CR500 for the win. Bud Northrup claimed second on his CR500 and Keith Klett, riding Northrup’s YZ250 took the third spot.

Jacob Tackitt, riding a KDX200, took the 200cc class win for the second straight day and moved into first place in the point standings with a 5.158 second winning time. Gordon Green and Mike Peters, also KDX mounted, finished second and third. Billy Tom Hanes took his second win in as many days on his CR125 with a fine 4.875 second run in the 125cc class with Josh Denson running second on his Honda with a 5.024 second time.

In other amateur class action, R.J. Watson took the 250cc class win on his KX250 and Steve Shafer rode his Harley to wins in the Open and Pushrod classes. Chris Francis took the 400cc stock class win and David Brown was the fastest Quad on the hill.

In Youth class action, ‘Dangerous’ Dylan Brady took the 50cc class win on his Polini with Dakota Blakeny and his Cobra running second. Steven Joe ‘Goose’ Weaver was the fastest of the Junior Mini riders on his KX80, with Shane Green and his Kawasaki running second. John Gocken took his second straight win in the Senior Mini class on his KX80 with point leading Mike Popham and his YZ85 claiming second.
