FORTNER FLYING AT PLEASURE RIDERS HILLCLIMB

'Fast Andy' Fortner demonstrated once again how he earned his nickname as he flew his CR500 high and far over the top of the Pleasure Riders 150 foot hill in a startling 3.748 seconds to take the win in the 600cc class and the beautiful Fast Time Trophy and $100 that went with it.
He had to come from behind to pull it off, however, as Paul Hackbarth had taken the first round lead in the 600cc class with a 4.043 second time on his Honda, and 'Wild Wade' Schultz had delivered a sizzling 3.793 second run on his Yamaha twin in the 750cc class to set the first round overall fast time. Randy Trosper, Jared McKay and District 15 Hillclimb Referee joined Fortner in the 3 second bracket in the 600cc class to take the next three places, with 'Lightning' Lane Schultz taking 5th with a 4.003 second run.
Mark Goodman Jr joined in the 3 second club with a 3.823 second time on his Kawasaki triple to put pressure on Schultz in the 750 class. Tom 'Wild Child' Daniels saw his five straight Fast Time streak broken, and had to settle for a third place finish with a 4.054 second run on his Kaw triple. Lane Schultz and Boots Weber filled out the top five places.
Matt Peters enjoyed a double win evening, taking the honors in the 250 and 400cc classes. He also came from behind in the 250cc class as his first round 4.483 second run was well behind Donnie Barber Jr, who shot his CR250 over the top in an excellent 4.168 seconds. In second round action, however, Peters held his power on a bit longer and stopped the timer in 4.167 seconds on his Honda, snatching the win from Barber by the narrowest of margins - a mere 1/1,000 of a second. Goodman,Jon Creek and Cody Jenner filled in the next 3 spots.
Peters also had to work hard for the 400cc class win. His 4.144 second first run time would not have held up for the win, as Paul Hacbarth knocked down an excellent 4.010 second run on his second ride on his KTN360 to take the class lead. Peters responded with a fistful of throttle on his KTM380 and joined the 3 second club with a 3.988 second run to take the class win from Hackbarth. Marcus Brown, Ron Todd and Paul Hillard rounded out the top five.
Wade Schultz was also a double winner, as he claimed the Open Pushrod class win to go with his 750 victory. Running his hot Harley, Schultz took only one ride, his 4.012 second first round effort holding up for the win. Scott Sheets Jr topped the hill in 4.273 seconds for second place with Steve Shafer and Tim Wiggins running third and fourth.
Randy 'the Rocketman' Trosper had another of his typically good nights, taking the Senior (+40) class win to go with his second place in the 600 class. His 3.946 second winning time gave him two sub 4 second runs on his CR500. Kevin Weaver ran second on his CR500 in 4.082 seconds with Bob 'Flyin Fish' Fisher , also on a Honda, running third. Kawasaki pilots Kevin McKay and Ron Todd placed fourth and fifth.
In youth class action, Donnie Robbins took the 50cc Automatic win with Dylan Brady second, Justin Trent edged Kieven Hillard for the Junior Mini win, and Billy Hanes grabbed the Senior Mini win with Donnie Barber III coming in second.
Other amateur class winners were Kevin Ryan in the 125cc class, Jared Mckay in the 200cc class and Lane Schultz in the Open Class. Gayle Jenkins was the Super Senior winner, Matt Ringstrom grabbed the 400cc Stock class win while Scott Pearson was the best in Open Stock action. Steve Shafer walked off with the 600cc Four Stroke win and Ryan Garriott was the fastest of the Quad riders.
