145 riders competed at the Pleasure Riders night hillclimb on June 21, and Butch ‘Fearless’ Fetters was arguably the best of the bunch. Fetters took 2 class wins and also the Fast Time Trophy and the $100 bill going with it. Fetters’ fast time came early in the first round of riding in the 600cc class, when he flew his KX500 up and over the top of the 150 foot three stage hill in 4.194 seconds to take that class win and set a time no other rider would match all night. His closest competition came from Jon Creek, who stopped the clock in 4.260 seconds on his Honda. Creek has also been running strong this year, and is currently in second place, behind Fetters in the district points race. Third went to ‘Fast Andy’ Fortner who was barely off Creek’s time with a 4.271 second time on his Honda.

Fetters is the defending National Champion in the 600cc Four Stroke class, and has been nearly unbeatable in that class this year - carding 9 wins in 10 events so far. On this evening, he flew his KTM520 high over the top with a 4.449 second winning ride. Scott Pearson, riding a Honda CR450 thumper was second with a 4.534 second time with Will Dalemberg, also Honda mounted, taking 3rd place. Mark Schroeder, the hillclimbing CPA from Danville, also had a double win night. His first win came in the 250cc class where he sailed his stock length YZ250 over the top in 4.348 seconds on his first ride. Jon Creek came close to catching him in the second round with a 4.365 second run on his RM250 and Matt Peters carded a 4.436 second time for 3rd place on his CR250.

Schroeder returned to ride the 400cc class on the same YZ250 and was even faster, stopping the clock in 4.291 seconds on his first ride. The next closest time was posted by Schroeder on his second ride, with a 4.313 second time – well ahead of second place rider John Michael Gocken, who topped out in 4.433 seconds on his Yamaha. Clay Garwood was close behind Gocken with a 4.475 second time for 3rd.

In youth action, Dakota Blakeney took the 50cc class win, ‘Joltin’ Jake Wood took the 65cc class win, and point leader Shane Green was the Junior Mini Class winner. Mike Popham also increased his point lead in the Senior Mini class with a win there.
