GREEN PERFECT AT HILLCLIMB OPENER

Districts 15 and 17 held their 2008 opening night of the hill climb season at the Pleasure Riders M/C near Cayuga, Indiana on Saturday night, May 3.  Young Shane Green, from Georgetown, Illinois, had a   perfect night, winning all three classes he entered, and posting the top 4 fast times.

Green’s first win came in the 250cc class where he had to come from behind after crashing at 146 feet on his first ride.  Matt Altfillisch set the first round time to beat with a 5.412 second run, but Green shocked the class on his second ride, posting a 4.842 second time on his YZ250 to take a commanding  class lead and set the Fast Time to that point of the evening.  Chad Altfillisch claimed second with a 5.208 second time on his Honda with John Colbert third.

Green didn’t mess around in the 450cc class, flying his KTM380 over the top in 4.847 seconds on his first ride to set the Fast Time for the first round.  Chad Altfillisch claimed second in 5.071 seconds with Scott Pearson third.

In 600cc action, everyone expected Green to post a lower 4 second run on his first ride, but he caught too much air off the second breaker of the 155 foot hill and had to recover from a near crash, posting a 5.481 second time, leaving him in third place behind Randy Trosper (5.213) and John Colbert (5.365).  In the second round, however, Green unleashed an incredible 4.457 second high flying ride on his KX500 to blow away the competition, taking his third class win and a convincing Fast Time of the night.  Trosper responded with a 5.047 second run to retain second, with ‘Big Al’ Petty moving into third with a 5.344 second time on his KX500.

Green’s 250cc time was second fastest of the night, while his 450cc class times were third and fourth fastest.  Randy ‘Rocketman’ Trosper was his closest challenger for Fast time with a 4.879 second winning time in the Senior (+40) class.

Joe ‘Jammin Joe’ McGurer also had a perfect night, taking the wins in his two classes, and taking the Youth Fast Time trophy.  Joe won the 85cc Senior Mini class with a 5.683 second time which was also good for the Youth Fast Time.

Joe then rode his KX125 with the ‘big boys’ in the 125cc class, and claimed that win with a 5.201 second first round time.  Young Brett Kalaher claimed second with a 5.385 second time on his Yamaha, with the Altfillisch brothers taking the next two spots.

Trosper was also a double class winner. He delivered two very good times of 4.879 and 5.061 seconds on his CR500 to win the Senior (+40) class, with Mike Bacon second in 4.982 seconds. Trosper then took the Open Stock class win on a Honda, with the top two times of 5.203 and 5.120 seconds to claim the win with Kyle Galloway running second in 5.228 seconds.

Green continued his dominant riding on Sunday in the second day of the doubleheader, again winning all three of his classes and taking the top two fast times.  His 4.827 second first round run on his YZ250 was good enough for the win in the 250cc class, but he bettered it himself with an even quicker 4.652 second run on his second ride, which turned out to be the 4th fastest ride of the day.  The Altfillisch brothers claimed the 2d and 3rd place spots.

In 450cc class action, Green immediately posted the class leading time with a 4.532 second time to set the class lead and a new Fast Time on his KTM.  Just as in the 250 class, he was even faster on his second ride, blitzing the hill in 4.413 seconds, which was the fastest time of the entire day.  John Michael Gocken claimed second with a 4.904 second run oh his CRF450 with Chad Altfillisch in third place on his Honda.

Green flew his KX500 high over the hill in 4.465 seconds on his first ride to take the lead in the 600cc class, and set a Fast Time to that point.  Dr. John Colbert was his closest competitor both in the 600cc class and overall fast time, with a fine 4.586 second run on his first ride, followed by a 4.514 second time in the second round.  That time was third fastest of the day for the Springfield dentist on his Honda.  Randy Trosper was third on his Honda.

Joe McGurer repeated his Youth Fast Time performance of the night before with a 5.359 second winning time in the 85cc Senior Mini class.

Trosper repeated his double class wins of the night before by winning both the Senior and Open Stock classes on his CR500 Hondas.

Riders who repeated their Saturday single class wins included Clint Garriott (50cc), Cole Garriott (65cc), Keith Klett (200cc), Paul Hillard (750cc), ‘R.J.’ Watson (Open), and Mike Bacon (Super Senior +50).
