What's the AMA?

The American Motorcyclist Association is the largest and most influential motorcycle

organization in the USA.  Others that you may have heard of are ABATE, MRF, Motor Maids,

etc.  It's the AMA, though, that sanctions virtually all amateur and professional on- and

off-road competition events.  To race hillclimb, motocross, dirt track, etc. you first need

to join the AMA, and then join the district(s) you wish to compete in.

Besides sanctioning races, the AMA is a crucial voice in the ear of legislators in

Washington, DC and in your own state and local governments.  I urge you to join the AMA

and/or any other motorcycling organization, such as those noted above or others, who

engage our lawmakers to protect our right to ride.  There are people all over the place

who would like nothing better than to see motorcycles banned from both off-road use

and on, from our city parks that we cruise through on our street bikes to the state and

national areas that we go trail-riding on.  The AMA, with the help of other organizations,

fights to keep our streets, parks, and riding areas open for all to enjoy.

The AMA also sponsors the Motorcycle Hall of Fame and Museum.

The American Motorcyclist is the AMA's monthly magazine - free to all members.

The AMA is also sponsoring a relief effort for those affected by the horrific

terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.

It's pretty simple - you buy a t-shirt, and they donate the proceeds.
