TACKITT, NORTHRUP FASTEST MUDDERS

It rained hard at Mt Vernon just before the scheduled night hillclimb on September 27th, then rained hard again after the first class was run. But, thanks to the presence of heavy equipment and skills of Andy Fortner, the hill was cleaned up enough to get one run in on that Saturday night.

Young Jacob ‘Crazy Jake’ Tackitt was particularly pleased with the decision to run, as he won two classes, wrapping up the district championship in one, and also won $300 and a 5’8" trophy for the fast time of the night.

Riding Gayle Jenkins’ CR500, Tackitt sailed over the top of the slippery 150 hill in 3.907 seconds to take the class win, as well as set the fast time. The RevLoc automatic clutch on the Honda adapted very well to the mud. No other rider was able to break into the 3’s all evening. Jared McKay, riding a KX500, was his closest competitor in the 600cc class, taking second with a 4.015 second time, followed by Josh Denson, John Scroggins and Jon Creek.

In an outstanding show of good sportsmanship, Jenkins and Tackitt gave $100 of the $300 Fast Time money to the Fast Time award for the Sunday race.

Tackitt’s second win came in the 200cc class where his 4.462 second winning ride on his KDX200 not only won the class, but also clinched the season points championship. Gordon Green finished second on his KDX and will have to settle for the second place district points jacket.

Jason Northrup was Tackitt’s biggest challenge for fast time outside of the 600cc class, and came close with a 4.008 second winning run on his Kawasaki triple in the 750cc class. Paul Hillard and Andy Fortner took the next two spots.

Due to the extremely muddy conditions, Northrup elected to not ride his big 1220cc Yamaha in the Open Class, but rode his dad’s 800cc Triumph instead, thinking it would hook up better on a slick hill. It did, and his 4.160 second time was good enough for the win in that class, with Harley riders Buzz Green and Richard Miller II running second and third.

In youth class action, Jeremiah Lyday was the only 50cc rider to top the hill, doing so in 9.326 seconds on his hot little Cobra. Dakota Watson managed 138 feet on his Kawasaki for second, just one foot higher than Chelsea Gill on her Honda. "Jammin Joe" McGurer shot his KX65 over the top in 6.021 seconds to take the 65cc class win, with Caleb Emory and his KX60 taking second with a 6.306 second run. Emory, however, brought the same bike back to win the 85cc Junior Mini class with a startling 5.568 second ride, with McGurer taking second with a 5.872 second run.

Richard Miller II took the 85CC Senior Mini class win with a very quick 4.851 second ride on his Honda with Cody Rankin second on his Suzuki. The King City Dirt Riders, for the first time, also awarded a Youth Fast Time trophy which went to young Miller.

Billy Tom Hanes was also a double class winner, riding his Hondas to victory in both the 125cc and 250cc classes. Greg Joy joined the double winners by riding his YZ450F thumper to wins in both the 450cc and Open Stock classes. Other amateur class winners were Josh Denson in the 600cc 4- stroke class, Scott Petty in the Senior class and Gayle Jenkins in the Super Senior class. R.J. Watson claimed the win in the 400cc Stock class, and Paul Hillard was the fastest on 4 wheels.
