The King City Dirt Riders ran their rain delayed hillclimb originally scheduled for June 4, with Shane Green and Caleb Emory emerging as the fast guys of the day.  Green won 2 of the three ‘regular’ classes he entered, took the Fast Time award, then was the best in the King of the Hill one run winner take all shootout for the ten fastest riders of the day.

Green’s first win came in the 250cc class where he set the first round fast time of 3.649 seconds on his YZ250,  just barely ahead of Mike Popham with a 3.652 second time on his Yamaha.  Green improved his time with a 3.640 second run in the second round to seal the win.  In the 600cc class the young gun from Georgetown, Illinois had to come from behind.  Tom Brown sailed his CR500 over the 150 foot hill in 3.466 seconds to take the first round lead with Green in fourth place, with Jake Tackitt and D.J. Compton in second and third.  In the second round, however, Green really let it fly, holding the throttle on just a bit longer and flew high over the top in a sizzling 3.437 seconds on his KX500 to take the class lead and set a new fast time which would hold up for the rest of the day.  He then returned to action in the King of the Hill race, sponsored by Kaleb Northrup and his kingofthehill.org website.  Green turned in another sizzling ride, this one a 3.454 second winning time.  Mike Popham was second with his YZ450F thumper in 3.512 seconds.

Green’s perfect day was ruined by Matt Peters, who overtook Green in the second round with a 3.653 second time on his KTM380 to win the 450cc class.  Green had posted a 3.695 second run in first round action on his KTM, but couldn’t improve on his second ride.

In Youth class action, Caleb Emory took the 85cc Senior Mini class win a 4.545 second run on his KX85 to take that class win and the Youth Fast Time award.  Dylan Brady claimed the second spot with a 4.805 second run on his CR85.  Emory returned to win the 125cc class also with a 3.980 second time on his KX125 with Paul Hart second.  That win completed a perfect day for the 12 year old Emory.

In other youth class action, National Champion Dakota ‘D.J.’ Watson claimed the 50cc class win with Steve ‘Bug’ Coon Jr in second, Logan Moody won the 65cc class with Brett Kalaher second, and Nick Green was the best of the 85cc Junior Minis with Brett Kalaher claiming the second spot.

David Brown was the best in the 2-Stroke Quad class while Steve Kemp was the fastest of the 4-stroke Quads.  Brad Franklin finished second in both classes.

On Sunday, Green and Emory continued their fast ways.  Emory had another perfect day, winning both his classes and taking the Youth Fast Time trophy again.  His youth fast time came in the 85cc Senior Mini class where he posted a 3.982 second run on his KX85 for the class win, with Dylan Brady second in 4.464 seconds on his CR85.  Emory then rode his KX125 to a near identical 3.979 second time  to claim the win in the 125cc class, with Schuyler Kalaher taking second with a good 4.033 second time.

Green posted his fast time in the ultra competitive 600cc class again.  Riding his KX500 he flew over the top in an amazing 3.382 seconds on his first ride, a time that held up all day for the class win and the Fast Time Award. D.J. Compton was second with a 3.466 second time on his Kawasaki.

Mike Popham had a Triple win day, winning every class he entered.  His first win came in the 250cc class where his first round 3.461 second ride in the first round held up for the win on his YZ250, with Matt Peters close behind on his CR250 with a 3.496 second run.  Popham was even faster on his YZ450F thumper with a 3.424 second run on his second ride in the 450cc class to overtake Matt Peters, who had sailed his KTM380 over in 3.526 seconds to take a temporary lead.

But the youngster from Amboy still had another ride coming on his Yamaha, and made it count with a 3.392 second blitz of the hill on his first ride in the 600cc 4-atroke class – only 1/100 of a second of the Green Fast Time.  He couldn’t improve that on his second ride, and missed a perfect day by just that much. Justin Trent took second with a 3.534 second time on his Honda.

In other youth class action, D.J. Watson took the 50cc win for the second straight day, Logan Moody was the 65cc class winner and Nick Green took the 85cc Junior Mini class win for the second straight day.

The browns came out on top in the Quad classes, with David winning the 2-stroke class for the second straight day, and Broc taking the 4-stroke win.
