Mark Goodman Jr, from Indianapolis Indiana, had a perfect night at the King City Dirt Riders night hillclimb, taking three class wins and the Fast Time Award.

Goodman’s fast time came in the 750cc class where he flew his 750cc Kawasaki Triple over the top of the 230 foot hill in a blistering 4.017 seconds to take a convincing win.  The ‘Wild Child’, Tommy Daniels grabbed second place on his nasty Kaw Triple with a nice 4.202 second run, barely beating ‘Fast Andy’ Fortner who put his triple over in 4.218 seconds for third. District 15 Hillclimb Referee, Scott Petty, cruised over in 4.914 seconds on his classy Yamaha for fourth.

Goodman was also fast in the 250cc class, taking that win with a fine 4.380 second ride on his Kawasaki 250, then nailed yet another win in the 600cc class where he sailed over the top on his CR500 in 4.139 seconds to set the fast time at that point.   It would have, in fact, held up for fast time if he hadn’t beaten it himself in the 750 class.  Mike Koeller was his closest competition in the 600 class with a 4.175 second run, with class point leader Andy Fortner running third on his CR500 in 4.282 seconds.  Scott Sheets Jr and Scott Petty ran 4th and 5th.

Jared McKay, from Neoga, Illinois, also had a good night as he posted wins in two classes.  His first win came in the 200cc class where he rode his KDX200 over the top in 4.770 seconds to take the win.  He was the only rider in the class to break into the 4’s, but Jake Tackit was close on his Kawasaki, carding a 5.081 second run for second place.  Chad Barnett, Travis Sandy and Paul Hillard, all on Kawasakis, took the next 3 places.

McKay’s second win came in the 400cc class, where he stopped the clock in 4.571 seconds on Steve Shafer’s YZ400 for the win.  Paul Hillard was his closest challenger on his Yamaha with a 4.744 second run, while Gordon Green and Ernie Bruce ran 3rd and 4th.

Gayle Jenkins didn’t have a Super Senior class to ride in, so he showed the ‘youngsters’ in the Senior (+40) Class the fast way to the top.   The 55 year old veteran from Liberty, Illinois carded a very good 4.445 second time to take the class win on his Honda, with Kevin McKay and his Kawasaki running close behind him with a 4.483 second time for second place.  Flyin’ Bob Fisher was fast, too, stopping the clock on Scott Sheet’s CR500 in 4.504 seconds for third place with Mark Peters and Brad Franklin taking the 4th and 5th place spots.

In Youth Class action, Chris Peters rode his KTM 50 over the top in 7.399 seconds to take the 50cc class win, followed by Chad Wilson, Taylor Hungate and 3 year old Jeremiah Lyday.  Cody Rankin topped pot in 5.737 seconds on his YZ80 to take the 85cc Junior Minis win with Mike Popham running second, and Billy Hanes grabbed the Senior Mini win on his KX80 with a 5.045 second time with Chad Cox running second on his Kawasaki.

Other Amateur class winners were Nick Mayo in th 125cc class, Randy (Buzz) Green in the Open Class and, Scoot Sheets in the Pushrod Class. Paul Hillard was the fastest of the Quad riders on his good running Banshee.

The riders only got one shot at the hill, as the skies opened up and a deluge of biblical proportions wiped out the second round.  The riders, it was reported, picked up their awards while standing in water midway up their boots.
