The King City Dirt Riders hosted a night hillclimb on their 150 foot 3 stage hill near Mt Vernon, Illinois on July 23.  It was very hot, in the mid 90’s, and dry, but the club had the hill well watered and it held up well.  Brent Bowman had an excellent evening, posting the fastest time in the first round action on his KX500 with a 3.682 second run.  No one else was able to match that time all evening, except Bowman himself, who posted a sizzling 3.491 second time on his second ride to claim the class win, the six foot tall Fast Time trophy, and $400 cash award.  Jared McKay was his closest challenger with a3.706 second time on his KX540.

            The club also gives a Youth Fast Time award, and young Caleb Emory claimed it.  Riding his KX85 in the 85cc Junior Mini Class, Emory carded a 4.680 second time on his first ride, and saw that time stand up through both rounds for the class win and the Fast Time Trophy.  ‘Jammin Joe’ McGurer was his nearest competitor in the Junior Mini  class with a 4.872 second time on his KX85, and Aaron Bullock was his closest challenger for Fast Time with a 4.743 second time to win the Senior Mini class

            In other Youth action, Logan Moody took the 50cc class win with Dakota Watson second, while Brett Kalaher claimed the 65cc win with Moody running second.

            Kevin ‘Bubba’ Bond, Randy ‘Buzz’ Green and Paul Hillard were all double class winners.  Bond took his first win in the 125cc class as he came from behing to overtake R.D. Miller III. Miller had turned in a 4.229 second run on his KX125 in the first round to take the lead, but Bond flew his CR125 over the top in the second round in 4.199 seconds to just barely take the win from Miller, who responded with a 4.220 second time of his own.

            Bond crashed on his first ride in the 200cc class, and Jake Tackitt took the first round lead with a good 4.358 second run on his old KDX200.  Bond kept his KDX under him on his second ride, however, and sailed over the top in 4.292 seconds to take the class lead.  Tackitt very nearly caught him, but fell just short with a 4.299 second time on his second ride.

            Buzz Green showed off his new Open Class bike, a beautiful big bore Kawasaki, and blasted over the top in 4.316 seconds on his first ride.  Jason Northrup, riding his big Yamaha four banger for the first time since he broke his ankle early in the season, took second place with a 4.602 second ride.  Green then returned on his big and bad Harley and flew it over the top in 4.014 seconds to take the Push Rod win, with Bud Northrup second on his Triumph.

            Hillard claimed the 750cc class win on his Kawasaki triple.  He set the first round class lead with a 3.960 second run, which would have held up for the win, but he topped the hill in a very quick 3.700 seconds on his second run trying to snare the Fast Time money.  Jason Northrup ran second on his triple.
