TACKITT TAKES IT AT BELLEVILLE

By: Bud Northrup - Belleville, IL - 5/20/07

Jake ‘Crazy Jake’ Tackitt had a perfect day at the Belleville, Illinois hillclimb on May 20, taking 2 class wins and the Fast Time Award.  His fast time came in the 600cc class where his first round 4.171 second ride on his CR500 was good enough for the class win and Overall Fast Time.  He rode again in the second round and sailed over the top in 4.275 seconds – the third fastest time of the day.  Kevin ‘Bubba’ Bond was his closest challenger in the 600cc class with a good 4.490 second run on his Honda.

Tom ‘Wild Child’ Daniels was Tackitt’s closest challenger for the Fast Time.  Daniels flew his incredible 750cc Kawasaki Triple high over the top for a 4.209 second time to win the 750cc class.  He landed so hard, however, that the bike was damaged to badly to return for a second run.  Bobby Walker was second in the class with his Suzuki four banger in 4.4.772 seconds.

Tackitt and Bond met again in the Open Stock class, with the same results as the 600 class.  Tackitt posted a 4.567 second time on his Yamaha thumper to take the first round lead, which held up for the win.  Bubba countered with a 4.922 second run on his Honda for second.

In youth class action, Brett Kalaher claimed yet another Youth Fast Time award with a 5.565 second come from behind ride in the 85cc Junior Mini class on his second ride.  Tom Goodnick had taken the first round lead on his YZ85 with a 6.082 second run with Kalaher posting a 6.755 second time.

In other youth action, National champion Dakota ‘D.J.’ Watson won the 50cc class, Jeremiah Lyday took the 65cc class, and Devin Campbell was the best of the 85cc Senior Class Mini Class riders.

Schuyler Kalaher (Brett’s big brother) also had a good day, winning both of his classes.  His first win came in the 125cc class where he topped the hill in 5.055 seconds  on his YZ125.  He then returned in the 200cc class on his vintage KDX200 and made a come from behind effort to win that class.  Veteran rider Robbie Ellis stopped the clock in 5.087 seconds on his first ride to take the class lead into intermission, with Kalaher in second with a 5.570 second time.  But Schuyler responded with a 5.024 second effort in the second round to take the win.
