2002 AMA AMATEUR HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIPS IN WEST VIRGINIA
By: Bud Northrup

Midwestern hillclimbers have a special treat for them this year as the nationals will be held on a 'new' hill. The MOONSHINE Hillclimb Club is hosting the event on their clubgrounds just 1 1/2 miles north of Delbarton, West Virginia. Check in is on Friday, August 9, with racing on the 10th and 11th. We're glad to see those dates moved up, as there will be no problems with school the day after!

The hill is 500 feet long with inclines as steep as 70 degrees, with two breakers - one each at the bottom and top of the hill. The hill and grounds are very well kept and the promoters very friendly people.

There will be the usual 3 Youth classes and 3 ATV classes offered. 11 Amateur classes are being offered - including the 600 4-stroke and both 400cc and Open Stock classes. Unfortunately, there is no 'Super Senile' class (+50) - but the Senior (+40) is available.

For more information, you may call Billie Jo Endicott (304-475-2232) or Randy Maynard (304-475-2942. In addition, the club has an excellent website: www.moonshinehill.com. Dial that up and you can get much information as well as some good pictures of the hill.

There are two amateur hillclimbs scheduled prior to the Nationals - one on May 18 and another on June 15, so if you'd like to run the hill before the big dance, you can do just that.
